Knowing how to export and import your wallet safely ensures you always stay in control of your assets — without losing access, functionality, or peace of mind.
What happens to your crypto assets when you’re switching phones, using a new browser, or migrating from another Solana wallet? That’s when wallet export and import come into play.
In this guide, you’ll learn:
Let’s dive in.
Before jumping into the steps, it’s important to understand what “exporting” and “importing” a wallet actually means — and why it matters.
To “export” a wallet simply means to retrieve the credentials that give you access to it — either your recovery phrase or your private key.
This is typically done when:
If someone gets access to either your seed phrase or private keys, they have full control of your funds. Never share them, and always store them securely!
Importing a wallet means loading your existing wallet into Solflare — either using your recovery phrase or private key — so you can manage your assets in a secure Solana-native environment.
You might do this when:
If you’re switching devices, backing up your credentials, or planning to import your wallet into another app, you’ll first need to export your recovery phrase.
Here’s how to do it securely, whether you’re on Solflare Mobile or the Solflare Web Extension.
Open the Solflare extension
Click your wallet profile icon
Click on the three vertical dots next to the wallet you want to export the recovery phrase from
Click Export Recovery Phrase (or Private Key)
Enter your password
Open the Solflare app and tap the wallet icon
Tap Edit and then tap on the three vertical dots
Select Export Recovery Phrase (or Private Key)
Follow the security prompts (PIN, biometrics)
Write down the 12- or 24-word phrase by hand and store it somewhere safe and offline
Never screenshot or copy your recovery phrase into a digital file. Write it down on paper and store it safely.
Your wallet. Your keys. Your responsibility.
If you already have a Solana wallet — whether it was created in Solflare or another Solana-compatible wallet — you can easily import it into Solflare using your recovery phrase.
This is the same phrase you received when you set up your wallet for the first time which means you’re going to have to export it from there first if you don’t already have it written down.
Here’s how to import your existing Solana wallet into Solflare on both mobile and browser:
Export the recovery phrase from your current wallet
Open the Solflare app or web extension and tap “Import wallet” (mobile) or “I already have a wallet”
Enter your 12- or 24-word phrase (in exact order, no typos
Set a new password or biometric unlock
Your wallet will be restored instantly
Recovery phrase = full wallet restore, including NFTs, tokens, and SOL accounts
If you already using Solflare, and you have a wallet that you want to import, you can also do that using a private key.
Solflare is a Solana-only wallet – it is built exclusively for the Solana blockchain. That means you’ll only see the SOL, tokens, and NFTs that live on the Solana blockchain — not assets from Ethereum, BNB Chain, or other networks.
So, once you import your wallet, you’ll see:
Solflare automatically detects and displays all Solana-based accounts tied to your recovery phrase. No need to manually add tokens or NFTs.
If your recovery phrase was originally created in a multi-chain wallet (like Trust Wallet or Metamask), you might expect to see assets from Ethereum, BNB Chain, or others.
But in Solflare:
This doesn’t mean those assets are gone, just not accessible in Solflare due to its Solana-only blockhchain support.
Importing a wallet is easy — but it should always be done carefully. When you’re dealing with seed phrases or private keys, one small mistake can put your entire wallet at risk.
Follow these best practices to stay safe:
Only use the official solflare app or website. Go directly to www.solflare.com to get the app download and web extension links. Avoid third-party download sites or fake pop-ups claiming to be Solflare.
If you’re ever unsure, double-check Solflare’s verified links on X or other Solana’s official resources.
No support agent, developer, or dApp should ever ask for your 12 or 24 words. If someone does — it’s a scam.
The only time you’re going to need your recovery phrase is when you’re importing an existing wallet. That’s it.
If someone has your recovery phrase, they have full access to your wallet.
Avoid saving your recovery phrase in screenshots, cloud notes or messaging apps.
Instead, write it down and keep it in a secure offline location, or use a metal backup for durability.
On Solflare Mobile:
On Web/Extension:
Check each word in your seed phrase before confirming. Double-check spelling, order, and formatting. One wrong word means you might restore a blank wallet — or the wrong one entirely.
If you lose your seed phrase, no one can restore it for you — not even Solflare. Self-custody means full ownership… and full responsibility.
That’s why secure backups matter more than passwords or logins.
Exporting and importing your wallet with Solflare is is quick, secure, and beginner-friendly — as long as you have your recovery phrase.
It is also a fundamental part of self-custody. You have full control and responsibility over your wallet. And that’s exactly how it should be.
Whether you’re switching from another Solana wallet, restoring access on a new device, or exploring Solflare’s powerful tools for the first time, the process is built to be seamless. Just remember:
